New town supermarket opens doors

Tesco products have gone on sale in Jersey for the first time today.

Alliance has opened its new £2.2 million store running through from Sand Street to York Street this morning - when the doors opened at 7.30 am there were already shoppers waiting outside.

The new shop has created around 25 new jobs, with the promise of more to come in the next few years, as the company plans to open a big store on the old Ann Street Brewery site.

Alliance - which used to trade in Jersey at the old Cash and Carry at Plat Douet - have already been selling Tesco products and produce in Guernsey for over a year under a long term partnership agreement between the firms.
