As their Royal Visit of the Channel Islands comes to an end in Jersey, King Charles and Queen Camilla have thanked islanders for making the day "memorable and enjoyable" – despite the weather.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace said: "Their Majesties had a wonderful visit and are so grateful to the many people who turned out in such large numbers to make the day so memorable and enjoyable.

They only wish that time, weather and circumstances had allowed them the opportunity to meet more of them in person. Thank you Jersey."

It was the first visit of a reigning Sovereign to the island in 19 years.

The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq also expressed his thanks and pride in the large numbers of people that lined the streets of St Helier to welcome the King and Queen to Jersey.

"I would like to personally thank every islander who joined us yesterday to welcome Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Despite the unprecedented weather, the Visit was a great success and one which will surely be remembered for many years to come.

"When I saw the numbers of people lining the route and gathering in St Helier I had a special sense of pride in the island."

King Charles and Camilla will continue their visit to Guernsey today, due to arrive in St Peter Port this morning.

The Jersey Expo will remain open today from 10am to 6pm and exhibitors hope to see as many people as possible down at the Weighbridge to welcome islanders to experience the range of produce on show.
