A Jersey deputy wants to put on the largest street party in the world to celebrate the 70th anniversary of liberation.
And St Brelade No. 1 Deputy Murray Norton wants it to beat 1.5 miles long - the current world record set by a village in Devon back in 2002.
Deputy Norton who is the Assistant Minister of Economic Development said: “The idea is looking at Liberation 70 and making sure there’s a people’s event that people can very easily get involved in.”
He thinks town would be the best place for the big party.
He said: “St Helier is a very central place, more ideally suited but we’d need to look at the feasibility of closing roads, people getting there, being able to park.”
He says he’s already had a great response to his idea and offers to help organise it on social media but says he needs to speak to a lot of people first to see whether it really does have mileage.
Tomorrow's annual Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony is the first event of this year's 70th anniversary of the Liberation.
