Confidence has returned to the Island’s jobs market according to a local recruitment specialist who’s seen a big increase in the number of people getting new jobs since the middle of last year.
Shelley Kendrick is the Founder of Kendrick Rose and has been tracking movements since the beginning of the economic downturn. She’s seen growth particularly in private equity, real estate, fund administration and legal vacancies and believes it’s a great sign for the local economy.
She said: “Businesses have begun to settle again in Jersey following the upheaval of the last few years. It has taken a while for companies to re-align their strategic direction but confidence is now returning. We have seen a number of new roles created, particularly at senior level. Additionally, candidates have become more confident in seeking out new employment opportunities.’
Shelley believes businesses looking for new ways to make money have also helped revive the market. She said: “A number of local businesses are now in the right position to diversify and they are looking for key players who demonstrate real business acumen to fulfil these roles. This has all brought much-needed movement to the local market.”
She’s seen a change in the hiring process because of the economic climate - local businesses have become more cost effective and stringent. Shelley said: “Employers are adopting a range of interview techniques, often incorporating psychometric ability testing and personality profiling to ensure that they are getting the right person for the role. This is a positive development locally and will lead to well-considered work forces and stronger placements. We are now experiencing positive changes for both employees and employers and if this continues 2014 will be a prosperous year for Jersey business.”
