Midvale Road is to become one-way to traffic and three speed bumps will be installed as part of plans to improve it for the 500 pedestrians that use it on a daily basis.
Infrastructure Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis this week signed off on the plan, which will also involve widening pavements, and work will begin early next year.
Cyclists travelling southbound away from Rouge Bouillon will be able to use the road, and cars will not be allowed to overtake them.
Those travelling northbound will be re-routed to Dorset Street and onto Clearview Street.
The changes follow a consultation in which more than 200 islanders took part.
