The family of murdered Jerseyman David Miller have appealed for the media to respect their privacy at his memorial service on Friday, and have paid tribute once again to a young man who “brightened up the world”.
In a statement, Sue, Ian and Michael Miller wrote that they have been overwhelmed by the support that they have received here and in Koh Tao, the Thai diving resort Island where David (24) was murdered a little over a fortnight ago.
He was found dead on a beach along with Hannah Witheridge from the UK. Thai police say that they think more than one person was responsible for the murders, but have yet to identify or arrest suspects.
The Millers say that their hearts go out to the Witheridge family, and they have urged anyone with any information to assist the Royal Thai Police.
In a statement released through the States of Jersey Police, the Millers said: “We have been overwhelmed by the breadth and depth of support provided to us by so many here in Jersey and also by people far away.
“We would like to thank our friends and family for their help and support. We were also particularly touched by the vigil and prayers held by good people on Koh Tao and we thank them for their prayers and respect.
“We don’t feel the need to involve ourselves in the commentary surrounding the investigations in Thailand. We urge anyone who can help these investigations to please assist the Royal Thai Police in solving these murders and bringing the culprits to justice.
“We are confident that these people will be caught now or later.
“Now we would like to concentrate all our thoughts on our lovely David. Taken from us before his time and before he could blossom to his full potential.
He was our David. He was very special. He brightened up the world and we miss him terribly.”
The memorial service will be held at 3 pm at Holy Trinity Church on Friday and is for David’s friends and family – the Millers have asked the media not to approach the congregation.
