TV show leads to 42% increase in Jersey holiday bookings

Tuesday 27 June 2023

A documentary series currently airing on Channel 5 has initiated a “boost” in traffic to Visit Jersey’s website and an increase of 42% in holiday bookings to Jersey and Guernsey with one travel provider.

A spokesperson from Visit Jersey also said that the show, 'Jersey & Guernsey', was predominantly driving new audiences to their site – Jersey.com – with 79% of visitors following the first episode being first-time users.

This comes after 1.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the first episode the UK-produced show, which is narrated by Alan Titchmarsh and promises to "delve into the lives of some of the islands' most colourful residents" as they prepare for the "busy summer ahead".

Visit Jersey said the programme's debut had caused a "boost in website traffic". The second episode, which saw local foraging fanatic Kazz scour Jersey's west coast, aired last week.

Mark Godfrey, Commercial Director of Channel Islands Direct said his company had also seen a spike in bookings.

He said: "Since the first episode last week, we've seen a 70% increase in brochure requests and 46% increase in web traffic from Jersey and Guernsey holiday searches. Most importantly, we've seen a 42% increase in bookings made to Jersey and Guernsey and expect to see this continue."

Mr Godfrey continued: "The TV programme is fantastic and showcases the beauty of the islands perfectly. We've been riding off the back of it with digital activity and will be holding some Channel Island instore days with trade partners over the next couple of weeks."

"We are also putting together some Jersey and Guernsey twin centre holidays to promote."

Robert Mackenzie, Managing Director of C. I. Travel Group in Jersey said: "Following the screening, we have seen an uplift in web traffic of about 20% compared to recent weeks, with peak demand seen within 24 hours of the programme airing. There is no doubt that the fabulous imagery that has been featured in the first two episodes has increased interest in visiting the Channel Islands and we expect that this will convert into sales for this summer, over the coming weeks."

The programme features appearances from makers of La Robeline Cider Richard and Sarah Matlock, ceramicist Claire Haithwaite, the Jersey Tea Company and the Sprouts Farm Club team.

There are four more episodes yet to screen, with the next on Wednesday at 20:00.
