Two covid patients start showing symptoms

Tuesday 14 July 2020

Two people who recently tested positive for covid-19 in Jersey have now started displaying symptoms.

The pair had both been asymptomatic when they received their positive test result, and were already in self-isolation when they developed symptoms.

A process of tracing their close contacts is now underway.

It comes after the number of cases of the virus officially confirmed in Jersey hit nine yesterday.

Four of the infected individuals were detected during screening of the public sector workforce, four were new arrivals into the island and one received a test as they were admitted into a hospital/care home environment.

However, since then, one of the passengers who arrived on the island is now clear of covid-19, meaning that the official number now stands at eight.

Government officials would not confirm to Express whether the symptomatic pair were among the new arrivals or public sector workforce.

A spokesperson commented: "In each case, the individuals have been in isolation since they tested positive and have developed symptoms while in isolation, and a full process of contact tracing has taken place."
