Two men rescued from rocks off St Clement

Islanders are being warned about the dangers of the rapidly incoming tide, following another rescue off rocks on the south coast.

Yesterday evening the Fire Service had to go to the rescue of two men who had got stranded on rocks 100m off La Mare slip - it seems that they had been caught out by the tide, and initially tried to swim to shore. But since one wasn't a good swimmer, they found some rocks instead, and waited to be picked up.

Both men were uninjured, but the Fire Service say they were very cold.

It's the second similar incident in a couple of weeks, and has led the Fire Service to warn people to take more care, as they say the outcome could have been very different:

"Once again a lack of awareness regarding local tidal movements has meant that members of public have been caught out and haveneeded rescuing. The males in question at this incident eventually made the right decision and made their way to the highest point possible on the rocks they were stranded on. From there, they attracted the attention of someone on the shore who raised the alarm. Had they pursued their original plan to swim to safety the outcome could have very easily been very different."
