18 to 39-year-olds to get boosters

Jersey will be following UK vaccine experts’ advice to offer booster covid jabs to islanders aged 18 to 39.

The island will also be offering a second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to all 12 to 15-year-olds no sooner than 12 weeks after their first dose, and a fourth dose to all severely immunosuppressed individuals no sooner than three months after their third dose, in line with advice issued by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) today.

Dates for the updates to the vaccine programme are yet to be confirmed. Currently, booster doses are only available to book for those aged 40 upwards or those in other at-risk categories.

Health Minister Deputy Richard Renouf commented: “Jersey’s Vaccination Programme has always followed the advice and guidance provided by the JCVI and the UK’s Chief Medical Officers. As such, we will be incorporating all the latest recommendations into our programme with more details on the rollout to follow soon.  

“The intention of this new guidance is of course to accelerate the rollout of covid-19 vaccines in order to increase levels of protection across the population over the winter months, and increase our defence against the Omicron variant which has now been identified in the UK.”
