Update: Court evacuated over bomb threat

Monday 27 July 2015

The appeal hearing over Darren McCormick’s life sentence for murdering a man with an axe last year was suspended this morning after a bomb threat was phoned in.

The session in the Magistrate’s Court in Union Street was shut down and the people in court were evacuated from the building just after 10 am.

Judges, lawyers, court officials and press were all removed from the building after ushers asked for the court to be cleared immediately.

Police taped off the entire building, including the Probation department's offices, when they arrived at the scene. They also closed Union Street from Cyril Le Marquand House to Dumaresq Street.

The Court of Appeal case is expected to resume at 2.30 pm after the police have conducted a full search.
