St Clement has finally brought the Optimists’ five-year reign as Battle champions to an end.

After one of the most successful parades in years, the winners were announced by Mr Battle – Jersey-born TV star Jonny Labey - in front of the grandstand.

St Clement’s vibrant float – Aquaria - showing tropical fish swimming in a colourful reef with a giant octopus and a sea turtle at the front of the exhibit has taken this year’s top Battle prize – the Prix d’Honneur.

The float was designed by Battle stalwart Marcus Davies. It’s a return to winning ways for St Clement. They have now been awarded the top prize 20 times in 59 years.

The Optimists, who have won the Prix d’Honneur for the past five years, had to settle for second best – the Prix d’Excellence. Their float - once again designed by Steve Bouchard - was called Bossa Nova and had a Mexican theme with revolving sombreros, maracas, guitars, and trumpets.

It’s back into Battle tonight for the Moonlight Parade. Gates open at 19:30, the show gets underway at 21:00, and there’s a fireworks finale at 22:30.
