VIDEO: Missing man may have been suffering "anxiety"

Tuesday 06 June 2017

Missing father Andrew Gilchrist may have been suffering “stress and levels of anxiety” due to a recent incident, Police have said nearly one week after his disappearance.

Detectives searching for Mr Gilchrist, who is known to many as ‘Titch’, renewed their appeals for information last night after becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Speaking at a press conference, Acting Inspector Paul Smith said that Mr Gilchrist had previously gone missing on several occasions – as recently as a few months ago when he was located in the St Aubin area – but that to have disappeared for this long was “out of character”.

“The concern for Andrew has been gradually building there was thoughts that he might have just wanted to gather his own thoughts, some peace and quiet for a time period, but this is now out of character. He’s not made contact with family and friends, we’ve had no reported sightings covered on our social media,” he said.

The 49-year-old building industry worker was last seen in the early hours of Wednesday night in the area of Dorset Street and is understood to have made his way towards Gloucester Street.

Police recently released CCTV images of Mr Gilchrist visiting a nearby supermarket in a bid for more information. They have already conducted initial searches of areas he has frequented in the past and monitored credit card activity, while the Fire and Rescue Service used a drone as part of investigations over the weekend.

But Inspector Smith described the incoming information as unusually low, stating that Police, “…don’t have any extensive leads to follow.”

Although Mr Gilchrist has family connections in the UK, it is believed that the unmarried father remains on the Island.  He is also not understood to own or drive a vehicle.

“He’s not understood to have a motorcycle or access to a push bike, all which increases the likelihood if he was out and about that we would expect him to be seen,” the Acting Inspector added.

“I would appeal for Andrew, please, if you are listening, if you are watching this appeal, please make contact with us.”

Mr Gilchrist, who speaks with a Scottish accent, is described as being 5 foot 2 inches, of medium build and with short white hair. He was last spotted in a blue zip-up Adidas top with light blue or grey trousers and a khaki baseball cap, and may be carrying a rucksack.

Those with any information regarding Mr Gilchrist’s disappearance are urged to contact Police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
