Nine local 'faces' are helping to promote this year’s Poppy Appeal in the island.

The veterans – including Sir Stephen Dalton – the island’s Lieutenant-Governor – will appear on banners, on a Liberty Bus, posters, flyers and on social media.

All are keen to get the message across that the Royal British Legion is on hand to help support former military personnel and their families.

The Legion estimates there are up to 5,000 serving personnel, veterans and their dependants living locally, and says that “many are facing everyday battles.” The charity says it has access to a wide range of resources to support people emotionally and financially and is encouraging those who need help to come forward. It’s a message reinforced in a special video interview Sir Stephen has recorded for the campaign.

Royal British Legion Vice Chairman Lieutenant Colonel Nigel Smith said: "For many people, Remembrance is associated with the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. While we will always remember them, the Royal British Legion wants to raise awareness of a new generation of veterans and service personnel that need our support.

“The majority of the money that is raised in Jersey is spent in Jersey for veterans
that live in Jersey. Last year The Royal British Legion (Jersey) spent around £90,000 on veterans and families of veterans that required assistance. Without the generosity of the people of Jersey during the Poppy Appeal we would not be able to provide the help needed.”
