Wanted: Young islander interested in politics

Monday 17 July 2017

The Jersey Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is looking for one islander, aged between 18 and 29, to attend the 9th Commonwealth Youth Parliament, which will be held in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), from 8th to 12th October 2017.

Over 60 young people from across the Commonwealth will take part in the Youth Parliament, participating in parliamentary proceedings such as question time, and debates and votes on legislation and other propositions.

There will also be education sessions led by experienced parliamentary officials and opportunities to network with other participants.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in current affairs and, in particular, Commonwealth and parliamentary matters. They will need to demonstrate potential leadership qualities, good communication skills and a sound understanding of the way in which Jersey is governed. Candidates will also be expected to take an active role in the debates and proceedings of the 9CYP.

Young people who wish to apply should send a full CV, a scan of the details page of their passport as well as a letter of application setting out why they believe they are suitable to represent Jersey. Applications need to be sent to Dr Mark Egan, Honorary Secretary of the CPA Jersey Branch at Morier House or by email [email protected] , before 17:00 on 24 July 2017.
