Reports of a snake on the loose in town alarmed some islanders on Liberation Day after a photo was posted on social media asking where its owners were.
But all was not as it seemed...
Snake-spotting islander Jeff Buckingham posted a picture of the snake on Facebook, asking: "Anyone lost a snake?"
The post attracted over 100 likes and almost as many comments.
Islanders claimed to have spotted the creature around someone's neck throughout the day and in different locations – outside the Royal Yacht and near the bus station – and speculated over whether it was too hot or too cold for the elongated reptile to be outside.

However, upon further enquiries, it seems Jeff was having us all on.
He told Express that he had seen the snake with its owners at West Centre and shown it to his grandson.
"The gent who owned the snake placed it on the floor," he said.
Jeff's "mischievous self" posted a picture on Facebook to see what reaction he would get if he hinted the snake might be by itself.
