Adrian's Lynch's parents have thanked Islanders for their support over the last eight months since he disappeared, and described the "complete sadness and heartache" they felt when the call came to say that a body had been found.
Jersey Water staff discovered a body in Handois reservoir on Thursday morning, and dental records have suggested that it is probably Adrian - Police also found his passport in a jacket pocket - although a formal identification hasn't yet been made.
In a Facebook post, Danny and Sharon Lynch thank the Police for their efforts in trying to find their son, and speak of the kindness from Islanders who have helped them during what they describe as "8 months of torture" since Adrian went missing, after a work night out on Friday 4th December.
Here is their post in full:
"Danny and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the kind words of support they have been leaving for Adrian’s Family and Friends since this whole ordeal began to now. There has been nothing but kindness from people wanting to help and give their time and resources which has completely overwhelmed us.
It has been 8 months of torture that has now come to an end. The phone call yesterday to say a body had been found was met with complete sadness and heartache, followed by some relief. We thought we would be emotionally prepared for when Ady was eventually found, having gone through the last 8 months, but we really feel the full force of what has happened. Adrian no longer being here leaves a gaping hole in our lives and heart that will never be filled. Our grieving can now continue as it should, now that the cloud of uncertainty hanging over us has gone. Ady is missed sincerely by all those closest to him. And will always be remembered.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Police for all of their hard work and effort in finding Adrian. The team dealing with the case have been there with us all the way through and we know just how much you all wanted to find him just as much as we did. Thank you.
There are too many people to thank individually, but every Rescue service person, member of the public, printing companies, shops, media, the bus company, and those who kept it in the public eye with their blogs and the politicians who asked questions, thank you all for helping.
Our heart goes out to the person at Jersey Water that found Adrian, we hope it has not caused you too much distress.
We will not be adding anything more on this page after this post and will not be keeping the page up and running for much longer, as it has served its purpose, but we wanted to share our last thoughts with you all before we continue to grieve privately for our Son. You have all been a great source of support and help when needed.
We have found our Son xx"
