When someone posts on social media that they have found a personal treasure like a wedding ring in the sand, the reaction most people expect from the owner is one of delight.
However, this was not the case this weekend when a local metal detectorist found a ring engraved with the year 1989 a "long way out in St. Aubin's Bay".
Steve Andrews, the man behind the 'Jersey Lost Ring Metal Detecting' Facebook page, specialises in finding jewellery that people have lost on the island's beaches.
He posted the ring on the 'Jersey Channel Islands Lost and Found' Facebook group and it was shared by almost 200 locals who were keen to see the wedding band reunited with its owner.
However, the post was later updated to inform readers that a lady in been in contact with Steve, who said that she threw the ring away on purpose after a bad divorce.
Steve also confirmed in the post that he would be putting the ring back where he found it.
Although this particular ring was not reunited with its owner, the 'Jersey Lost Ring Metal Detecting' Facebook page contains many heartwarming stories of other examples where there is a happy ending.
One such example was around a month ago when islanders Brian and Elaine Ellis contacted Steve to help locate the lost wedding ring of their friend Barbara, who had been visiting from Scotland.
Steve searched for more than three hours "with no luck", but managed to track it down the following morning.
