We're still the sunniest place in the British Isles!

Thursday 10 September 2015

Jersey has retained the hotly-contested title as the sunniest place in the British Isles.

Last year was the Island’s second sunniest on record with 2379 hours of sunshine recorded at the signal station at Fort Regent.

The latest figures from Jersey Met show that 2014 wasn’t quite as sunny as 2010 when we saw 2403.2 hours of sunshine – the sunniest on record but we still outshone other sites across the British Isles.

Records began in 1925 and show that the dullest year on record in Jersey was in 1981 with 1585.7 hours.

The sun was out across the Channel Islands last year with 2114.5 hours of sunshine recorded in Guernsey too.

Jersey Met's Senior Meteorologist Paul Aked said: "On average we expect 1986.1 hours of sunshine in Jersey each year.

"Our sites, along with all official recording sites, are inspected regularly by the UK Meteorological Office to ensure measurements are taken accurately and to the standard required, without which we would not be able to use the record as official for the Islands."
