Thousands of athletes will be looking to take home medals from next summer's NatWest Island Games but a dozen young Islanders are pinning their hopes on winning another competition first.
They have been competing over the summer to come up with the best design for an official Games pin badge which all the athletes will be given as a souvenir and now Islanders are being asked to help pick the winner.
Games Director Steve Bailey said: “We received a great response to the pin badge competition and that shows just how much local people are looking forward to the NatWest Island Games and are keen to be involved. By having a vote to determine the winner of the competition we are enabling the whole island to get involved in the Games and have a say in what the legacy of the Games will look like.”
Voting forms will be printed in the JEP every weekday this month and the finalists’ designs will be on display in Waitrose stores throughout October so that shoppers can pick their favourite and cast their vote.
The voting box will be at Waitrose in St Helier until 21 October and finally in the St Saviour Branch from 22 to 31 October.
The twelve finalists are Hannah Owens (13), Ben Volpe (14), Declan Bourke (18), Tom Bullock (13), Kira Gallichan (12), Samantha Neale (13), Emilie Edelenbos (14), Fern Richard (12), Jasper Clively (13), Coryal Larose (12), Skye Hawley (14), Grace Buesnel (15).

Whoever wins will get to work with local agency The Idea Works to fine tune their artwork and create the final design.
The NatWest Island Games XVI starts in Jersey on 27 June next year and runs until 3 July.
