Weekend arsonists sought by police

Tuesday 18 August 2015

Firefighters and police have been dealing with another spate of suspicious fires this weekend.

Two big green bins were burnt out at St Catherine’s and a silver land rover was seriously damaged in a car park in Trinity on Friday night.

The 4x4 was parked at Le Jardin D’Olivet in Trinity at the time and the police want to hear from you if you saw anyone behaving or acting suspiciously in the car park that overlooks Bouley Bay. They also want to speak to anyone who knows why the bins on La Route de St Catherine and La Route de la Brun in St Martin were on fire.

Police and firefighters are still investigating the cause of a large furze fire near to Les Landes that broke out the weekend before last in the early hours of the morning, that took three fire engines and a water carrier to bring it under control.  It was one of a number of suspicious fires in the west of the Island over the last six months.

If you’ve got any information about any of these fires you can ring the police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile it's still the weather for BBQ's and so firefighters are also warning people using disposable ones to put some stones under them to keep them off the floor and stop them burning the ground.
