Local filmmaker, Will Jack Robinson, loves making all kinds of films, but it wasn't until recently that he discovered a real passion in documentary making with his first short film, 'Our Plastic Free Island'.
Featuring local eco-warrior Sheena Brockie, the 15-minute film called on islanders to come together to protect the beauty of Jersey.
But Will says his "niche" is bringing together graphic design and motion graphics into his videos, which he does under his creative brand ‘Submarine Creative’. "This perspective of filmmaking is what I hope to explore, as much as I can, in the future. I believe that good design creates a stylish feel to the video and takes it to that next level."
For Express, Will put down the camera just long enough to write about five things he would like to change about Jersey...
I would love Jersey’s reputation as a creative hub to grow. I am truly lucky to collaborate with some incredible creatives every day from The Observatory to Studio M and Googsi Creative, just to name a few.

By working with these people, I’ve witnessed some extraordinary talent from other amazing people over here and it is very inspiring. It would be great to see more of a focus locally and internationally on what Jersey’s creative islanders can do.
We are all so lucky to live in Jersey. It is such a safe, beautiful and inspiring place. One thing I would like to see more in some people is a little more open-mindedness. If you have a passion, go for it - you can actually do that thing you think about! Just work really hard and make it happen. I believe that just because you’re on an island that is away from the mainland does not mean that you are stuck.

For me, I see it as an advantage, particularly working in the creative industry. It means you can target exactly where you want to go and then using the Internet you connect globally and make things happen. Whatever industry you’re in, make sure you dream big and make it happen and don’t use the fact we are on a nine-by-five island as your excuse not to. Use it as your strength!
This sort of leads on from my previous two points. When you need to connect to the mainland or elsewhere, I would love modes of transport to be a little cheaper. This will encourage a connection between Jersey, the UK and other areas of the globe.

I think it would help us to feel less secluded and with cheaper access to our island it could create more opportunities for the locals and encourage more people to visit our beautiful home.
I recently released a short documentary entitled “Our Plastic Free Island”. The star of the documentary was Sheena Brockie of ‘The Good Jersey Life’ and after sitting down with her and learning more about plastic waste, the reality was made clear when we went on a beach walk.

I was shocked to see how much waste there was on the beaches and the streets. I love the ocean and I hate the amount of waste that ends up in it. When I surf, paddle board or swim in the sea, it's distressing to see waste in there with you.
I think people should have more fun! Find out what excites you and then do something just for the sake of doing it.

Have fun and then see where it takes you. Life is too short to not enjoy it!
