An elderly woman has been treated in hospital for minor burns after her bedroom was destroyed in a fire, thought to be started by smoking.
Shortly before 11:00 today, fire crews arrived at a First Tower property to find smoke filling the hallway of a flat on the first floor.
They brought the fire under control, and then remained at the scene for over an hour to remove damaged items.

The bedroom was reported to be full of smoke, and the bed on fire.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan commented: “The place where we feel safest, at home — is where most smoking material structure fires, deaths, and injuries occur. Smoking material fires are preventable.
“If you or someone in your home smokes you can take simple steps to prevent a fire from happening in your home:
never smoke in bed
don’t smoke if you are drowsy
don’t leave a lit cigarette balancing in an ashtray
keep lighters & smoking materials out of the reach of children.”
