FESTIVE COCKTAILS: A locally-inspired 'Jerseytini'

Wednesday 25 December 2024

As part of a new series that aims to celebrate the creativity of local mixologists, the Co-CEO of the Jersey Hospitality Association is kicking things off with a cocktail that celebrates the finest of Jersey’s produce to be enjoyed on Christmas Day.

Express has partnered with the Jersey Hospitality Association to create the '12 Cocktails of Christmas'.

The series – which will run from Christmas Day to 5 January – will celebrate the variety, vibrancy and creativity of our local industry, while helping islanders bring festive spirit(s) into their own homes.

Today's cocktail...

Marcus Calvaini, Co-CEO of the Jersey Hospitality Association, is kicking off the series with a locally inspired cocktail representing the "ultimate celebration of our island’s land and sea".

The ‘Jerseytini' features homegrown vodka from a company Marcus co-founded, as well as fresh oyster water

Telling the story behind the ingredients, Marcus explained that the Jersey Royal Distillery Company uses potatoes that are either too small or too large to be destined for the supermarket shelves to create the Fluke Vodka featured in this recipe.

He explained: "Combined with Japanese Koji and champagne yeast, before being filtered through coconut carbon and silver, the liquid has luxurious viscosity and showcases the unique aromas and flavour profiles that you get from distilling a Jersey Royal Potato, which is honeydew melon and cucumber.

"Delicious toasty and deep notes come from the Champagne yeast and the koji leaves your pallet fresh and clean.|

How to make it...

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Fluke Jersey Royal Potato Vodka
  • Fresh Jersey Oyster Water (8-10% of the total liquid)
  • Garnish: Ponzu-marinated cucumber cubes & caviar

Method:

  1. Combine vodka and oyster water in a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well and strain into a chilled Nick and Nora Martini glass.
  3. Place a fresh oyster on top, garnished with cucumber cubes and caviar.
