Cheese, a cold beer and Hunter S. Thompson... is this the perfect way to unwind?
Emily Smith is the Community Centre Manager for The Salvation Army and has been for the last three years. She has a degree in journalism and worked for the JEP for two years.
Before working for The Salvation Army she spent 14 months travelling New Zealand, the Philippines and India. Whilst travelling she reared calves, worked in a café, taught children English in India and had the best time.
Emily is passionate about social justice and has volunteered for charities supporting the homeless and refugees for a number of years.
She has recently returned from Warsaw, Poland, where she worked alongside The Salvation Army there supporting the work they are doing with Ukrainian refugees.
I love cheese! If I have had a long day at work then I love nothing more than coming home and cutting a big block of cheese.
When travelling it was the one thing I missed. I love a really strong cheddar or smoked cheese.
For me, it has to be an ice cold beer.
In the summer, I love sitting on the beach with friends and enjoying a beer. I also love tea and make a pot of tea every morning before I leave for work. It tastes so much better in a pot.
Joan Armatrading.
When I was studying in Falmouth, I lived with three other girls and we had a record player. I have such fond memories of blasting out Joan and dancing around our living room. I also have a record player in my home now and love on a Saturday morning putting on a Joan record and having a good sing and a dance.
The Rum Diary by Hunter S Thompson.
A friend bought me this book several years ago and I've read it so many times. It's one of my favourites. I've also recently read Simon Reeves' travel diaries and they are really interesting. I'm a big fan of Simon and loves the way he travels countries.
I love to sea swim and this year I've been swimming all year round. For me there is nothing better than that feeling when you step into the water.
It's so exhilarating. It's huge thanks to my partner, Jack, that I now love it so much because I always used to be scared of the sea.
A perfect morning for me is getting up before work and having a dip in the sea.Yoga is also very important to me and I try to go at least once a week. I'm a regular at Hot Pod Yoga and in the summer take part in the Island Yoga classes.
