How I unwind: Lindsay Rutter, Ceramic artist

Friday 16 December 2022

A traditional roast with yorkshire puddings, peppermint tea and a bit of 'Gogglebox'... For one local ceramic artist, that's the recipe for a perfect relaxing afternoon.

Lindsay Rutter has recently returned to the island after three years in Liverpool and has since had two solo exhibitions.

She is now looking forward to creating her next body of work influenced by her return to the island.

To make end meet, she works in the finance industry so finding time to relax is important to her.

She has shared her favourite ways to do just that with Bailiwick Wellbeing...

I eat...

...a big roast dinner, on a Sunday, preferably wearing something with an elasticated waist.

Yorkshire puddings go with every roast, regardless of what meat it is. I’ll fight anyone who tries to tell me otherwise. I like to try and get a bit of everything in one mouthful, meat, stuffing, roast potato, veg, cauliflower cheese… there is no grace when I’m eating a roast.

I drink...

...peppermint tea, if I'm unwinding.

I’m fussy with my herbal teas. Nothing with any aniseed or liquorice flavours in it. One of my favourite teas, I’ve ever drank was Herbata Zimowa (Winter Tea) in Krakow, Poland. It’s a mulled black tea with orange and cinnamon and berries, it's lovely.

I listen to...

podcast

...podcasts.

One of my favourite things to do is get in the bath with a podcast on to listen to while I soak. If I need cheering up, I’ll listen to 'Wheel of Misfortune' with Alison Spittle, that always makes me laugh. I enjoy a bit of true crime too, anything scandalous gets me interested. 'The Missing Crypto Queen' was the last podcast binge I had. It’s a brilliant story.

I read...

book reading

I spent the last three years having to read for university so I am now slowly getting back to reading for pleasure after having to engulf myself in academia. I enjoy an easy read so I’ll usually look at the book charts and find a fiction top seller. I’ve just finished 'Sorrow and Bliss' by Meg Mason which was a great read about a tricky topic of women and their mental health.

I watch...

...comfort telly, so 'Gogglebox' is my 'go-to'.

I feel like I’ve grown to know the families on it and it also gives me good tips on what to watch. It feels like wholesome TV.
