STATEMENT: Faith leaders condemn "unprovoked attack on Ukraine"

Monday 28 February 2022

We, the leaders of the respective faith groups in Jersey join with countless others in sharing the shock and dismay at the unprovoked attack on Ukraine by Russian forces.

We pray for the people of Ukraine and their leaders at this uncertain and fearful time and for a peaceful end to the conflict.

We pray for politicians around the world as they seek to respond to these unfolding events and support the people of Ukraine and for those who serve in the armed forces.

We also pray for all those in Jersey who have family or friends in Ukraine and who are concerned for their safety and wellbeing.

St. Helier Parish Church (Town Church) and St. Thomas’ Church will be open during daylight hours for people to come and pray and light a candle and we support the call of Pope Francis and the Archbishop of Canterbury for a global day of prayer and fasting for peace on Ash Wednesday, 2 March 2022.

The Very Reverend Mike Keirle, Dean of Jersey

The Very Reverend Canon Dominic Golding, Catholic Dean of Jersey

Reverend Tony Morling, Acting Superintendent of the Jersey Methodist Circuit

A prayer for Ukraine...

God of peace and justice,

We pray for the people of Ukraine today.

We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.

We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,

that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.

We pray for those with power over war or peace,

for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.

Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,

that you would hold and protect them.

We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.
