New programme hopes to widen access to extracurricular activities

Thursday 03 October 2024

A new after-school programme has been launched by the Jersey Bulls Foundation to offer free support and training to primary school children.

The 'After School Support Programme' will see Jersey Bulls coaches provide free training sessions to support children who may not have previously been able to access extracurricular activities.

Sponsored by Ogier, pupils from Year 4 at Rouge Bouillon will pilot the programme this month.

The free sessions will cater for boys and girls of all abilities and aims to improve technique, provide high quality training, and help build confidence.

As a newly-registered charity, the Jersey Bulls Foundation will provide branded sports tops to all players as well as match-day tickets for their families to attend the football club's home games at Springfield.

Jersey Bulls Foundation Director Jonathon Buesnel said: "We are very excited to introduce the After School Support Programme which further demonstrates how seriously Jersey Bulls FC takes its community engagement responsibilities through our new charitable foundation.

"Ultimately, we hope that this leads to happier and healthier children who also go on to become part of our Jersey Bulls family."

Andre Le Rossignol, the Physical Education lead at Rouge Bouillion school, added: "I am delighted that Ogier and the Jersey Bulls Community Foundation are providing this opportunity, as pupils' health and wellbeing are high priorities at Rouge Bouillon.

"As a town school with busy working parents from a wide range of cultures, we recognise that many of our pupils may not have easy or regular access to outdoor play-spaces or clubs outside of school."

He continued: "The cost of external sport clubs can also prove a financial barrier to children's participation.

"The After School Support programme means that we are able to provide free and inclusive high quality and fun extra-curricular football sessions throughout the year for a large number of pupils."

Ogier – which has been supporting Rouge Bouillon School since 2017 in the 'Every Child our Future: Ready to Read' programme – is the programme corporate sponsor.

Nicola Carroll, the firm's Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, commented: "We are thrilled to support the launch of the After School Support Programme. Given our long-standing partnership with Rouge Bouillon, we're especially excited that they are the inaugural school to benefit from this initiative."

Jersey Bulls Community Foundation would like other primary schools to benefit from their new initiative and need more corporate sponsors to make that possible.
