Jersey and Guernsey will be going head-to-head this weekend... but will Jersey be able to steal the padel crown away from home soil?
The third edition of the Corcuera Cup Padel Inter-Insular will be held this weekend in Guernsey.
Home advantage has proven decisive in the short life of the cup, with both islands triumphing on home soil. This year’s tournament will take place at the Padel Club at Longcamps.
The Corcuera Cup is one of the largest Inter-Insular fixtures with fifty matches played across the two days in four categories: Men’s Open, Ladies’ Open, Men’s Vets and Ladies’ Vets.
Four individual trophies will be awarded across these events, with each match win counting for one point towards the team total.
The overall Corcuera Cup will be awarded to the island with the most points on Sunday afternoon.
The men’s teams consist of four pairs, while the ladies’ teams have three.
Each pair will play all other pairs in their category, to win one point for the team. 26 points will secure the Corcuera Cup, if the event is tied on 25 points all, Jersey will retain the trophy.
In the 2022 running of the event, Jersey turned the tables on Guernsey, who had marched to victory at the inaugural event, putting in a strong performance at home and winning both men’s categories convincingly. The Guernsey Ladies’ Team managed to retain their trophy last year.
Matches will be played across all three indoor courts at the Guernsey Padel Club with play beginning at 09:00 on Saturday and the final matches concluding early on Sunday afternoon.
