WATCH: "Inclusive" and scenic race seeks keen runners

Sunday 24 December 2023

We might all be about to tuck into some festive feasting... but anyone who wants to start planning ahead for a healthy new year is being encouraged to sign up for a scenic race along the North Coast in Spring.

The Festival of Trail Running will be held on 4 May and has been launched by Trail Monkey Running Jersey, who organise off-road events.

The event offers a range of distances, including 5km, 10km, 10 miles, 20 miles, and a 40-Mile ultramarathon, with all runners finishing at Les Landes.

Formerly known as the Double Top Ultra — an ultra marathon race circling the north coast twice — the event has been revamped to be more inclusive and involve runners of all levels.

Race Director and Trail Monkey founder Paul Burrows said: “It’s a novel event that is all about encouraging people to have a crack at running and give it ago, all while overlooking Jersey’s beautiful scenery from the cliff path.”

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come together, challenge themselves, and enjoy the great outdoors,” he added.

He said the event will celebrate community spirit and the natural beauty of Jersey and he expects around 200 participants.

The registration cost varies from £30 for the 5k to £80 for the 40-mile course, inclusive of a medal, running bib, entertainment, checkpoints with refreshments, and a clearly marked course.
