All aspects of adult education will be celebrated this weekend, highlighting the benefits of life-long learning.
Sponsored by Sovereign Guernsey, the Festival of Adult Learning includes activities taking place across the island.
These will be places such as at St Martin’s and Styx community centres, Health Connections’ Market Street Shop, Castel Douzaine Room, and The Guernsey Institute’s Les Coutanchez campus.
The festival starts this Saturday (5 April), and will be running through until next Friday (11 April).
A full itinerary of the week is available on the TGI College website.
During the Festival, The Guernsey Institute will showcase some of the opportunities available locally, with the aim of engaging with all areas of the local community.
Activities will include demonstrations, free sample classes and taster workshops and displays, said Jane Fears, the Business Development Director for TGI College.
“This year we aim to extend the event, building on last year’s success. We have additional locations for activities and a wider range of subjects and interest included. This event is the ideal opportunity to raise the profile of life-long learning and we hope to inspire more adults to try something new.
“Learning doesn’t have to be something you’re afraid of. It can have a truly transformational impact on lives and we are excited to be able to showcase that during this event.”
Sean Gillease, the Managing Director of sponsor Sovereign Pension Services, added: “We are delighted to be able to support this initiative. Sovereign encourages life-long learning as an employer and this is a great way to broaden that into the community.
“We have been sponsoring the Silver Surfers IT course for some years and this event is a great way to showcase what’s available on the island and perhaps encourage people to have a go at something they’ve never tried before.”
