Transatlantic rower and all-round adventurer, Sally Kettle, will be the guest speaker at this year's Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race gala dinner, to be held at the Guernsey Yacht Club on Saturday 6 June.
As well as being an accomplished sailor and rower, Ms Kettle is a marathon runner, author, speaker and humanitarian. She has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity and has travelled to Sumatra and Thailand to help families affected by earthquakes and floods.
Ms Kettle was the first woman to row the Atlantic Ocean twice and, if plans to skipper another expedition in 2016 go ahead, she will be the first woman to row it three times.
Steve Hunt said: “Ms Kettle is a knowledgeable and compelling public speaker. Her accounts of rough seas, wild storms, harsh living conditions and encounters with sharks are both hilarious and informative and we look forward to welcoming her to Guernsey.”
The Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race is the biggest sailing event in the Channel Islands and runs alternately between Jersey and Guernsey each year. This year the race finishes in St Peter Port and will culminate in a gala dinner for all 450 crew members and an awards presentation covering a range of categories from seasoned crews to young skippers.
To take part in the race the fee is £20 and the deadline for entry is Saturday 30 May. Entry forms can be completed online at the Guernsey Yacht Club website www.gyc.org.gg
