The fifth Christmas skiing event proved a popular with Islanders as in previous years.

This second season held in Fort Regent's Queen's Hall also got Islanders' votes as a venue mainly due to the easy access and parking, as well as the entertainment provided an don-site facilities.

Lisa Mclauchlan, Head of Commercial Operations at sponsor Sure said: “This year’s attendance numbers were on par with those of last year, 2013/14,” said. “The majority of skaters, about 70%, were aged 18 and under, a figure which underlines the importance of the skating rink in providing young people with an enjoyable activity during the holiday period.”

The level of skating ability overall continued to improve across the age groups, she added, with the resident UK professional coach being in high demand throughout the event. A few young people have been training over the past few years and worked their way up through the eight levels of the Skate UK Programme and are now working on bronze, silver and gold levels, specialising in ice dance and more technical moves.

Almost 40 adults signed up to the senior hockey sessions held twice weekly while on the junior side, 15 under-12s attended the early Sunday morning sessions.
