Visitors to this year’s Barclays Jersey Boat Show will once again get the chance to "have a go" at a number of leisure pursuits and watch live demonstrations from some of the UK’s top performers in their respective sports as part of the ever-popular "On Water & Active Zone", which will be located on the Albert Pier.
Supported by Condor Ferries, this outdoor area is dedicated to all things leisure wise, both on and off the water, hosting a variety of exhibitors with demonstrations from land and water based providers, including paddle boarding and kayaking as well as the latest craze of slacklining.
The Jersey Slackline Club will be offering slacklining tasters and public tuition sessions for this new and exciting sport throughout the weekend. The club will be demonstrating alongside the UK Slacklining School who already entertain the crowds at a number of major festivals and events, including Glastonbury, Green Man Festival and the Royal International Air Tattoo. The team is led by Ryan Bastin, who is regarded as one of the best and most progressive slackline tricksters in the UK, having wowed audiences across the UK and around the world since 2010.
On water activity will see demonstrations from the Jersey Rowing Club, kayak safety demonstrations, outrigger canoe races, paddle boarding and a display from Jersey Model Boats.
One of the expected highlights of this year’s show will be performances from the GB Flyboarding Team also known as Team WetJets, who are making their first appearance in Jersey. GB Team compete in a series of international competitions around the world, showing off their amazing skills by providing stunning displays for a number of big events across the country. The two-man team will be performing a series of show stopping performances in St Helier Harbour during the weekend.
“The Condor Ferries On Water & Active Zone has become one of the most popular aspects of the show since we first introduced it in 2011”, said Group Commercial Director for Ports of Jersey, Myra Shacklady.
She continued, “Living on an island as we do, surrounded by the sea, we have a multitude of water-based activities available to us and therefore, the show is the perfect platform to showcase them, especially in the lead up to the warmer summer months. The demonstrations and activities in this zone promises to be great fun and I’m sure will be popular with spectators as well as those who want to have a go for themselves”.
