A well-known local beauty business owner has broadened her horizons with a new venture she hopes will fill a gap in the Jersey market.
Beanina Teixeira is the owner of a string of namesake businesses many islanders will be familiar with.
Starting with nails and hairdressing at Beanina Beauty Secrets, she went on to open a dedicated nail, beauty and laser salon, and Beanina Barber Shop.
But now the multi-business owner is swapping beauty tools for home furnishings.
With Wonderful by Beanina being her fourth business – the third just on Bath Street – you could say she’s building a Beanina empire...
Like most businesses, Wonderful by Beanina was born out of a passion, but also an annoyance and what Beanina felt was a gap in the local market.
When decorating her expanding salon and renovating her own home, she came across the same problem.
“I’ve always been someone who buys everything online,” Beanina said, “but there’s disappointment when things come into my hands and it's too small, the quality is bad, or it’s broken.
“It was challenging to bring things like beds, furniture and mattresses to Jersey. I thought, ‘Jersey needs this’.”
From that point, the seed was firmly planted, and Beanina’s mind ran with the idea of owning her own shop, sourcing her own products and catering to that gap in the market.
“I found a problem and, for sure, it’s not just me,” she said. “If other people have this problem, I will find a solution.”

It wasn’t long before an opportunity came up in the shape of an empty shop just two doors down from her beauty salon and barber on Bath Street.
“I spoke with the landlord, but she said the space was gone. I thought it wasn’t for me, but then she called me again.”
The space had become available once again, so Beanina took this as a sign that this venture was “meant to be”, and a year later, the shop is up and running.
Hailing from Madeira, Beanina sources a lot of her products from Portugal. She said that she noticed that a lot of her friends, family and clients were bringing items back from Portugal and Madeira because they couldn’t find them in Jersey.
“In Jersey, we don't have the thermal bed lines that we have in Portugal. When people need them, they go to Madeira or Portugal and bring them back in their cars and suitcases,” Beanina explained.
“Now, I have them here; it's been so popular.”
She’s keen to provide those home comforts to the Portuguese community while giving others the chance to experience new products.
“The feedback from the people has been really great – that’s English, Portuguese,” Beanina smiled. “Our Jersey community has been so supportive.”

Keeping her products affordable so everyone can create a nice home for themselves is also a priority of hers.
“It’s so good to go home after working hard all day and love your house – even just a room in your house.
"What I really want is to keep prices for everyone's pockets so all kinds of people can buy from me,” Beanina explained.
"Who brought me to where I am now? It’s the people who work as cleaners or in hotels. I cannot forget about this.”
Assessing Beanina’s journey, you might think that opening a fourth business is a bold move in what is a difficult economic landscape, both locally and further afield.
Though she's proved she can run three businesses at the same time, it's clear that her mindset and approach to pursuing her interests are the driving forces behind her success.
“I think I am crazy enough to do things people don’t do,” she chuckled. “If you want results people don't have, you need to do things people don't do.”
“Before I opened Wonderful, I always said, ‘this is going to be fabulous, this is going to be wonderful’.
“My attitude and the way I was talking about it made people excited for me. They want to go and buy things.”
Beanina added: “I know I need to take the risk.”

And that desire to take risks, Beanina says, is driven by wanting to support her family.
“The key is, because I do this for my family, it's always hard work,” she shared.
“My partner is my biggest supporter, and my three kids are the reason I do this.
“I work seven days thinking my family will have a better life than I had. In the future, I will have the benefits of all this hard work.”
Speaking of the future, it’s probably unsurprising that Beanina is showing no signs of slowing down, and her mind is already buzzing with the next big ideas.
"I’m always thinking about something so I will not stop here," she laughed, “I always have plans for other things.”
