Christmas hampers for the homeless

Staff from Nedbank Private Wealth were very proud to hand over Christmas hampers and gifts to the Shelter Trust in Jersey this December.

The Shelter Trust offers accommodation, food, clothing and support for homeless people, from four sites around St Helier and St Saviour.

Over the past few months, staff have either donated from their cupboards at home or bought a few extra bits with their weekly shopping and thanks to their generosity, enough food and goodies were collected to make up three food hampers, one hamper of female toiletries and one hamper of male toiletries

In addition, Nedbank Private Wealth’s Sustainability Forum donated a large number of fleece blankets. All hampers were put together with sustainability in mind, from the fruit boxes that were kindly provided by local shops, to the recycled paper shredding that was used as a bed for the goodies in the hampers. In addition, all packaging can be recycled again.

Tracey Syvret, a member of the Sustainability Forum at Nedbank Private Wealth, who co-ordinated the collection of food, wrapped and filled the hampers, along with other members of the Sustainability Forum, said: “This is the first year staff in our Jersey office have made these Christmas hampers for the Shelter Trust. I am delighted to see everybody getting involved and helping give something back to our community. Something as simple as buying a few extra items with your weekly shop can make a huge difference to someone else’s Christmas and we know how happy the recipients are to receive the hampers."

Stuart Campbell, Manager of the Shelter Trust, who visited the bank to collect the hampers said: “The Shelter Trust is delighted with the donations and what has been donated will really help make Christmas a special time for the residents of the Shelter Trust.”
