Construction company Camerons has recruited six new young engineers, managers and trainees - and awarded a bursary – as it continues to invest in the future of construction in Jersey.
The new appointments are: trainee engineer Evan Kaye, trainee site manager Jack Robson, trainee quantity surveyors Olivia Higgins and Ruaraidh Watson, assistant quantity surveyor Cher Warburton and assistant site manager Matthew Marsh.
Nick Turner is the recipient of the Camerons Student Bursary Award and will receive financial support for his university studies, as well as undertaking work placements to complement the theory with practical experience.
“We are always very keen to bring our local young people into the construction sector,’ said Marc Burton, Managing Director of Camerons. “Although the industry was impacted by the financial downturn, we are beginning to see renewed confidence in Jersey and it is important for us to strengthen our team in preparation for the future. What better way to achieve this than to nurture our local young talent.”
Camerons has also been working with the States of Jersey Back to Work team and the Jersey Construction Council on a joint initiative, the Under Construction Training Programme. With training provided by Camerons and other industry trainers, the aim of the scheme is to train more than 200 jobseekers with a view to them building a career in the construction industry.
Camerons is currently undertaking a number of large developments including the redevelopment of the historic Southampton Hotel, retaining the original façade, the transformation of the old Monaco Hotel into a 26-bedroom nursing home, the refurbishment of De Quetteville Court for Andium Homes and the fit out of the new Alliance supermarket in Sand Street.
