Members of Google's team were in Jersey last week to talk to students, local entrepreneurs and Government officials about finding digital solutions to community issues and careers in the tech sector.

John Abel, Jean-Francois Perras and Phil Richardson held a number of sessions with students at Les Quennevais School, Beaulieu School and Highlands College to highlight various work opportunities in the industry.

Google also delivered a special event for Digital Jersey members, in which they discussed approaches to developing tech solutions to address real-life challenges and issues, hosted a CEO roundtable, which brought together senior digital and finance professionals, explored current trends in the fintech spaceand delivered a dedicated workshop session with the eight entrepreneurs taking part in Digital Jersey’s recently launched Tech Start-Up Bootcamp initiative.

They also met with Government officials to explain Google’s idea development process, with a specific focus on how digital solutions can support long-term efforts to meet the island's carbon neutral and sustainability objectives.

Digital Jersey CEO, Tony Moretta said: We have built up a strong relationship with the Google team over several years and I was really pleased to welcome them to Jersey to meet with and talk to a broad cross section of people here – from students and government officials to tech entrepreneurs and finance leaders.

“That is one of the things that Digital Jersey does best – connecting people and giving them access to the digital tools, frameworks and knowledge that can help them realise their ambitions and ultimately help shape Jersey’s future by adopting a digital-first mindset.”
