Female leadership programme set to break diversity record

Saturday 06 July 2024

A female entrepreneurial programme is set to host the "most globally diverse group of students" ever gathered in Jersey later this month.

LEAP Jersey 2024 will welcome 88 students, including 49 international students from 20 different destinations, to the island from 10 to 19 July.

The programme aims to inspire future female leaders by developing business, entrepreneurial, teamwork and networking skills.

It was set up by the Jersey College Foundation in 2018 but had a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic.

Female students from local secondary schools will join delegates from around the world to pitch projects that combat global issues to local entrepreneurs and experts in business.

Replicating the format of BBC One programme Dragon's Den, successful teams will secure grants from a £6,000 project investment pot.

Local students from Les Quennevais, Grainville, Le Rocquier, Hautlieu, Beaulieu and JCG will take part in the programme alongside visitors from as far as America, Canada, India, Thailand, China, Japan, and Australia.

Over 80% of local students will attend the programme for free and a further 17 international students have had their travel costs paid thanks to corporate sponsorship.

In total, over 50 companies are involved – with over 100 speakers, mentors, trainers and 'dragons' sharing their knowledge and expertise with the participants.

International students will also get the chance to explore Jersey through various team activities and outings, including an 'Amazing Race' around the island.

They will stay with local host families for the duration of the programme.

LEAP Jersey 2024 will run from 10 July until 19 July at the Radisson Blu Hotel, and will be officially opened by Vice Admiral Jeremy Kyd.

There will also be a networking event on Wednesday 17 July at the Radisson from 18:00 to 19:30.
