The five-star Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa has raised more than £4,000 for the brain injury charity, Headway.

The team, which comprised members of Grand Jersey and Headway staff, embarked on a challenge in August to row 22 miles from Jersey to Carteret in Normandy, before cycling 317 miles in three days from Epernay in North East France (the Champagne region) back to Carteret, finishing in the Champagne Lounge at Grand Jersey.

People were encouraged to sponsor the team in the run up to the challenge and money has been coming in ever since. Team leader and general manager at Grand Jersey Eamonn Elliott, who presented a cheque for £4,150 to Headway on Friday, was delighted with the level of support and generosity shown by Islanders, commenting:

"The team all worked extremely hard in training and during the challenge to make this project a success and we are delighted that so many people were inspired to get behind us and donate to this fantastic cause. We are all proud of our efforts and would like to thank everyone for their support, which will ultimately help to provide essential support, information and services to people in Jersey affected by brain injury," he said.

Joining Mr Elliott to complete the team were Grand Jersey’s Tassili executive head chef Richard Allen, Headway services manager Mark Harris, pilot boat coxswain for the Jersey Coastguard Rob Cassin and Michelle Laubscher, staff nurse at the General Hospital.

The challenge was followed by a celebratory fundraising gala dinner on 9 August held in the Champagne Lounge at Grand Jersey.
