Jersey lawyers recognised in high-net-worth guide

Jersey law firms have been recognised for their quality in the Chambers and Partners High Net Worth guide and awards.

Ogier took home the ‘Offshore Law Firm of the Year’ award at the Chambers HNW Awards held last month in London – the second major industry award for the market-leading law firm in July following its win at the ePrivateClient Excellence Awards.

The accolade, determined by independent client feedback, comes as Ogier said it remained the only law firm to be ranked top tier across Cayman, Guernsey and Jersey in the awarding body’s legal directory. 

Ogier’s Global head of Private Wealth, Matt Guthrie, said: “We’re very pleased to have been named Chambers HNW’s Offshore Law Firm of the Year. 

“For Ogier to be recognised by two prestigious industry bodies in rapid succession is a real source of pride for all of us as a firm.

Meanwhile, Carey Olsen says it remains the leading offshore law firm in the latest edition of the guide, with more ranked individuals than any other offshore law firm.

In addition to three Band 1 rankings for its trusts and private wealth practices in Bermuda, Guernsey and Jersey, Carey Olsen has 13 members of its global trusts and private wealth practice recognised individually, including eight from the Channel Islands.

Jersey’s head of the trust and private wealth practice, Siobhan Riley, is ranked in Band 2 and considered “phenomenal to work with” as well as having an “incredible ability to develop comprehensive advice on complex legal matters”. 

Fellow partners Alexa Saunders (Band 2), Keith Dixon and Andreas Kistler (both Band 3) are also ranked. 

Alexa is “academic but also very practical, and has a very calm way about her”, according to one industry source, while Keith’s “enthusiasm in seeking solutions and in helping trustees to best serve their clients is to be applauded”. 

Andreas is noted as a “highly experienced individual” and as someone “with an air that invites even mundane questions to be considered seriously and answered diplomatically”.

Mourant has achieved a Band 1 position in the latest Chambers and Partners’ directory. 

The team is praised as “astute and commercially pragmatic” as well it being noted that “it’s a strong and long-established team of lawyers.”

In total, six Mourant lawyers in the Channel Islands have been ranked in the trust and private client practitioner tables.

In Jersey, Mourant Senior Partner and leading trust litigator Jonathan Speck is ranked in the highest category as a Star Individual, by the guide. He is described as a “standout” and “heavyweight” lawyer. 

Mourant Head of International Trust & Private Client Edward Devenport is ranked as a Band 1 lawyer and described as a “professional team leader, focused on client needs and someone who builds excellent interpersonal relations.”

Joint Global Practice Leader for Litigation Bruce Lincoln is recognised as a trusts litigator who represents high net worth individuals and trustees in complex multi-jurisdictional matters, while Senior Associate Chiara Mundy is named as an Associate to Watch and is described as a “trusted pair of hands and our go-to lawyer”.
