Following on from the success of their initial parcel locker trial at the General Hospital and Commercial Street Post Office, Jersey Post have announced that they will be opening further banks of 204 lockers at Broad Street Post Office and 124 at Rue des Pres Post Office, to be trialled on a free basis until January.
The lockers at Broad Street will be available to use from the 6th July 2015 and will provide registered customers with 24 hour access to their parcels, 7 days a week.
Jersey Post will be encouraging all their existing business and retail customers to trial the lockers to experience the benefits and convenience of using this service, as well as offering the free trial to the wider public.
The initial three month trial provided awareness and helped Jersey Post to gather useful customer data and Jersey Post have therefore also decided to extend the initial trial offer to the staff members at the General Hospital until the end of the year and will be inviting other State Department employees to register for the extended trial.
Tim Brown, Jersey Post Chief Executive, said: “According to a survey by Island Analysis In March 2014, around 50% of all household goods are now bought online, and indeed at Jersey Post we have seen a significant increase in the volume of parcels being delivered to Jersey over the last two years.
"We are committed to enhancing our services and the provision of parcel lockers will not only provide customers who are not at home during the day with quicker access to their goods, but provide retailers with increased confidence that their parcels will be delivered securely and as quickly as possible. Parcel lockers will create greater convenience, accessibility and flexibility and form part of a wider initiative by Jersey Post to improve customer services and satisfaction.”
Following the trial at the Hospital, and the trials at Broad Street and Rue des Pres post offices, an additional three locker banks will be rolled out during 2015, with the remaining two being rolled out in 2016. These further locker banks will eliminate the need for individuals and business customers situated outside of St Helier to journey into town during business hours to collect their parcels, by providing 24/7 access in a location convenient to them. In 2016 new chilled or frozen lockers will also be introduced at the various locations to store perishable items.
Jersey Post also continues to gather local interest from Guernsey and Isle of Man, and engage with local businesses regarding the use of parcel lockers to provide enhanced services to their customer base.
