Local businesses have been sharing why they have put themselves forward for 'Jersey's Best Workplace', a new awards initiative launched by All Island Media which will help unlock insights about their teams.
In partnership with CompassJersey, the employee engagement award seeks to identify the gold-standard of employee satisfaction in the island.
To identify a winner, businesses will be benchmarked against each other and receive detailed analysis.
While All Island Media is spearheading the analysis exercise and awards, it will also be taking the opportunity to learn more about its own workforce, as James Filleul, CEO, explained...
A little over two years ago, we merged Bailiwick Express and the JEP to create All Island Media. That has meant a considerable amount of change for our team, in a sector which is being heavily disrupted, and at a time when budgets are tightening.
We have achieved a lot, but it has also been really challenging for the team, so we are definitely not…yet…Jersey’s Best Workplace. That is our goal, though, and going through this process, in partnership with Compass, will help us to get there.
I don’t think there is three, I think it comes down to one: trust.
Trust that the company has the right plan, trust that it has the resources, the ability and the will to get there, and trust that a continuing partnership between employer and employee is right for both parties.
As employees, we all make our own choices. For some, the right employer is the one that pays the most.
For others, it’s all about the mission, do I want to add my energy to achieving what this company is trying to do? And there are also those who just enjoy working with particular colleagues, and the team is all.
Culture is the interaction between those three, and if you lose one, the structure tips, and you don’t get the best people.
Open-minded, positive, honest feedback. In that context, positive doesn’t mean just saying nice things. It means accepting that there are often few total solutions, only trade-offs, and we need good ideas, and collaborative effort to move forward together.
That depends what comes out of it. It will contain things we can do now, things we can do in the future, and things we disagree with as the right course of action. But we will listen carefully to it all, and then openly communicate the next steps.
Top-performing companies will be highlighted in a special Jersey’s Best Workplace publication distributed in print and online through All Island Media's brands, Bailiwick Express and the Jersey Evening Post in March.
Winners will also be honoured at a special awards ceremony this year.
In addition to the survey results, compensation and potential to be crowned 'Jersey’s Best Workplace', entrants will receive an All Island Media advertising credit and an annual subscription to the digital edition of the Jersey Evening Post.
