Local businesses have been sharing why they have put themselves forward for 'Jersey's Best Workplace', a new awards initiative launched by All Island Media which will help unlock insights about their teams.
In partnership with CompassJersey, the employee engagement award seeks to identify the gold-standard of employee satisfaction in the island.
To identify a winner, businesses will be benchmarked against each other and receive detailed analysis.
Before that analysis gets underway, Expressspoke to several businesses who have decided to take part in the process.
Alex Wareham, managind director of A&A Scaffolding Solutions, explained what the scaffolding provider is hoping to learn from the programme and what a good workplace culture means to them...
At A&A Scaffolding Solutions, we are deeply committed to cultivating an environment where our employees feel valued, supported, and motivated.
Entering the Jersey’s Best Workplace initiative aligns perfectly with our goal of continuously improving our workplace culture.
It’s an opportunity to benchmark ourselves against other businesses, learn from best practices, and celebrate the collective effort our team puts into making A&A an exceptional place to work.
Teamwork: Building strong connections and fostering collaboration among our team members is vital. A unified team ensures safety, efficiency, and success in every project.
Empowerment: We believe in giving our team members the tools, autonomy, and trust they need to thrive in their roles and grow professionally.
Wellbeing: A supportive environment that prioritizes mental and physical health ensures our employees can bring their best selves to work each day.
Recruiting in the scaffolding and construction industry presents significant challenges.
The workforce is aging, with a growing proportion of skilled professionals nearing retirement. This demographic shift has created a pressing need to attract younger talent to the sector.
However, the lack of apprenticeships and vocational training programs in our area has made it difficult to replenish the talent pool. Additionally, the industry often struggles to overcome outdated perceptions about construction work, which can deter potential recruits.
In Jersey’s competitive employment market, businesses must go beyond standard benefits to stand out. A positive workplace culture signals to potential employees that we care about their long-term growth and satisfaction.
It also ensures current team members feel engaged, reducing turnover and building loyalty. A strong culture creates a ripple effect, our employees become our best advocates. At A&A Scaffolding Solutions, we try to tackle these challenges by establishing clear career progression pathways through our training program.
We’re eager to gain feedback on what we’re doing well and where we can improve.
Specifically, we’d like to understand how our practices compare to those of other businesses and identify new ways to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and productivity. Learning from others will help us tailor our strategies to meet the evolving needs of our team.
The results will provide us with a clear roadmap to refine and strengthen our workplace culture. By acting on the insights gained, we can implement targeted initiatives, such as enhanced training programs, wellness initiatives, or recognition schemes.
Ultimately, we aim to create a workplace that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our employees, ensuring A&A Scaffolding Solutions remains a leader in attracting and retaining top talent.
Top-performing companies will be highlighted in a special Jersey’s Best Workplace publication distributed in print and online through All Island Media's brands, Bailiwick Express and the Jersey Evening Post in March.
Winners will also be honoured at a special awards ceremony this year.
In addition to the survey results, compensation and potential to be crowned 'Jersey’s Best Workplace', entrants will receive an All Island Media advertising credit and an annual subscription to the digital edition of the Jersey Evening Post.
