New air taxi service expands team ahead of launch

Friday 14 July 2017

A new inter-island air taxi service has expanded its operations team with five appointments, including its first employee in Jersey.

The appointments are the next step forward for airline Waves, which will invite passengers to book flights via an Uber-style app.

Trials of the Waves' new aircraft, which has just come off the production line, are scheduled to start in August.

Chief Operating Officer Matt Bisson said that the new operations team would work alongside recently appointed pilot, Malcolm McFadyen, to finalise launch plans. Mr Bisson said: "We have put together a highly experienced team of pilots, as well as individuals with extensive commercial business management experience.

"We are on track to launch our tech-led, on demand air taxi later this summer and feel that the calibre of people we have on board rivals any similar-sized commercial airline. The team we have built has specific expertise, based on what we are doing to make Waves refreshingly different."

Joining the operations team as training manager is Graeme Pollard who had a successful career as a television cameraman and director before deciding to become a pilot 25 years ago. Before joining Waves, he was head of training at one of the world’s largest business jet operators and has an extensive managerial and training background.

Commenting on the new venture, Mr Pollard said: "Waves is a very exciting business with lots of potential. With the right team on board, which we have, we will be able to provide a much-needed service for Channel Islanders.

"We wanted a team with very relevant industry experience, and between us we have clocked up many flying hours, as well as having considerable business experience at a number of different airlines across the world."
