New chairman for Channel Islands charitable foundation

Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands has appointed John Boothman as its chairman to succeed Guernsey Jurat Stephen Jones.

Mr Boothman spent much of his career as a banker but more recently has served as chairman of JT Group and Aztec Group. He has held a number of appointments in the private, public and voluntary sectors, including the Jersey Employment Trust and The Stroke Association, and has been on the board of the Foundation since 2010.

Paul Turner, Head of Responsible Business Strategy and Governance for Lloyds Banking Group, said: “John Boothman brings with him a clear understanding of the charitable sector in the Channel Islands, together with passion and, as importantly, compassion. These attributes will be invaluable in helping drive the foundation forward, particularly at this exciting point in its history; securing the new covenant.”

The Foundation is one of the largest sources of charitable funding in the Channel Islands, dispensing almost £1 million a year in the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey.

Mr Boothman said: “We are very conscious of the increasing demands faced by many local charities at a time when financial pressures are adding to the  challenges they face. We are determined to play our part in making a positive difference to those in greatest need, and I am honoured to have been tasked with chairing the board during the next phase of its work.”
