New MD at Minerva

Wednesday 09 July 2014

Minerva has announced the appointment of John Wood as its new Managing Director. Minerva is a family owned fiduciary business that has been in existence in Jersey for over 35 years.

In addition to the day-to-day running of Minerva’s Jersey office, John will also be responsible for co-ordinating and working with the Board to deliver a five year strategic plan for the business.

Prior to taking on his new role as Managing Director of Minerva’s Jersey business, Mr Wood was Group Head of Operations. He started his career in New Zealand and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 whilst working with Spicer & Oppenheim, specialising in small business advisory and taxation. In 1993 he moved to London where he spent eight years mixing between operations and finance within a wealth management house before moving to Jersey in 2001 to take on the role of Chief Financial Officer at a local life assurance company.

Vipin Shah, Chairman of Minerva, commented: “John has a wealth of management experience and has made a valuable contribution since joining the firm in 2012. He is a welcome appointment from within our ranks and has underlined our commitment to promote talent from within rather than needing to look externally”.

Fellow Director and co-founder of Minerva, Umesh Sahai added: “We believe that John’s wide range of experience and expertise will greatly assist us in growing the business in a steady and sustainable manner. Needless to say we remain absolutely committed to Minerva, and we are excited about the future the business has. This is best exemplified by placing Minerva Jersey’s responsibility in John’s capable hands”.

John Wood said: “I am really excited about the challenges ahead. We have a strong management team and people in place to enable us to deliver on our strategic goals. We remain a family owned business with core values that have stayed constant over the years and centre around our customers and people. It is great to be part of a truly independent, focussed and growing organisation”.
