A former self-employed plumber has taken charge of Ovenu Jersey — the local branch of an oven valeting franchise with branches all over the UK.
This move followed the retirement of Ovenu Jersey's previous franchisee, leaving islanders without an option for oven cleaning.
Heath Kearns suggested that his son, self-employed plumber Danny, explore the business opportunity after being unable to get his own oven cleaned.
Danny joked: “I’m not sure whether it was because it is a fantastic business opportunity or that he just wanted his oven cleaning, either way it’s a win-win situation for both of us.”
Looking for a more flexible work-life balance so that he could spend more time with his children, Danny saw the business potential.
After completing a week-long training course, he relaunched Ovenu Jersey and quickly secured a week's worth of bookings.

Rik Hellewell, founder and managing director of Ovenu, praised Danny’s transition: “Having been a plumber experienced in running his own business, Danny has many transferable skills, which not only includes his technical expertise but his passion for delivering a top quality service.”
The Ovenu process involves dismantling key components, placing them in design-registered tank equipment, and using safe, non-caustic, and biodegradable products to clean oven parts. This leaves ovens in a “near showroom condition”.
The service extends to conventional ovens, hobs, extractor hoods, microwaves, range cookers, and more.
