Advocate Simon Thomas, senior associate at litigation and dispute resolution practice Baker & Partners who has been called to the Jersey Bar and received two awards from the Law Society of Jersey.

Advocate Thomas was awarded the Davies and Ingram Award for Family Law after achieving the top mark in this field, and also received the Appleby Award for the Law of Contract, having attained the joint top mark with Katharine Marshall of Ogier.

These awards follow on from two further awards presented by the Law Society in 2014 for the top mark in both the Trusts Law and Property Law examinations.

He was called to the Jersey Bar in December 2014.

Before moving to Jersey he practiced at a leading set of Barristers’ Chambers in London. He is a highly experienced courtroom and trial advocate with over 17 years’ experience in civil and criminal cases in the Courts of England and Wales at all levels up to and including the Privy Council. He has worked on cases in Jersey alongside the lawyers at Baker & Partners since 2003 and in 2012 he accepted an offer to join the firm on a full time basis as a key addition to its litigation practice.

Since that time he has advised local institutions and individuals in relation to trusts and commercial disputes as well as regulatory issues. He has drawn on his extensive courtroom experience to advise on the effective conduct of litigation. As a Jersey Advocate he will practice across the full range of the dispute resolution work undertaken at the firm.
