Tech leader joins Jersey Electricity Board

Thursday 18 June 2020

Jersey Electricity has appointed a new Non-Executive Director to its nine-strong board.

Lis Astall, a former Jersey College for Girls student, returned to Jersey earlier this year after 10 years working for Her Majesty's Government at the Ministry of Defence, Foreign Office, Home Office and UK Sport.

She has experience in strategy setting, technology and change management, which the utility company says it hopes will be beneficial in its digital transformation programme.

Ms Astall spent 27 years with Accenture and its fore-runner Andersen Consulting, where she was appointed as Managing Director for UK and Ireland in 2003, becoming the first woman to attain such a position in the technology sector.

Aiming to champion diversity, she led the campaigns to get Accenture accredited to Gold Standard in Business in the Community and voted as one of the top employers in the UK.

Ms Astall, who served as a non-Executive Director at Digital Jersey between 2012 and 2019, is currently a non-Executive Director at Standard Bank, Offshore Group, Paragon Id and VFS, a Private Equity-owned organisation.

"I’m delighted to have joined the Board of a successful, trusted company that plays such a vital role in the lives of so many Islanders," she said.

"Jersey Electricity is part of the fabric of the island. It has a remarkable history and an exciting future as energy markets across the globe are in an unprecedented period of transition.

"I hope I can contribute to helping Jersey Electricity make that transition successfully for the benefit of its customers, employees and shareholders."

Phil Austin, JE Chairman, added: "We are delighted to have attracted someone of Lis’ quality and expertise to our board, particularly at this very challenging time,"

"Our business is at the forefront of change and Lis’ background, both as a consultant and as an experienced director, will undoubtedly bring an additional skillset to our team."
